Types of Leather

Depending on the type of glove chosen, we use a variety of different leathers as described below - always of the highest quality, preparation and cut.

CAPESKIN & SUEDED CAPESKIN Dressed (tanned) Hair Sheep. Very fine grain. Available in both Grain and Suede surface finishes. Available in a wide range of colours and weights (thicknesses). Can be supplied in specially treated water-resistant specification. (Also known as Nappa or Kid)

IMITATION PECCARY CAPESKIN Lower quality Cape leather, overprinted with an imitation of the hair marking of the Peccary wild pig. The leather is of a lower quality only as regards some degree of surface marking. The wearing properties are as good as for regular quality Cape leather.

DEERSKIN American domestic deer, supplied dressed (tanned) from USA. Hard-wearing clean leather, with very few scars. 'Tacky' surface provides good grip.

SUEDED LAMBSKIN Raw skins from Spain, Italy or New Zealand, dressed in the UK. All lambskins used by Chester Jefferies have come from very small lambs, ones which have either been still-born or which have died of natural causes soon after being born. These lambskins are soft, warm and supple, and our gloves should NOT to be confused with 'sheepskin' gloves or mitts made from skins of older animals which have been sheared several times and have much harder and coarser wool.

BUFFED HOGSKIN From the Carpincho wild pig of South America. Very hard-wearing, soft and supple and over twice as expensive as prices shown!

TOPPED DRESSED SHEEPSKIN Hair Sheep - topped dressed (sprayed), hard-wearing, with good water-repellent qualities. Ideal for uniform applications.
